Beebee Travel is a young travel company with a mission of empowering young people to become great tour guides. We have been taking in many graduates from Tourism and English School who’d love to have a career in tourism in the future to be interns at our company. We help train and open practical environment for them to grow. This is again a great piece of reflection our intern, Lien Tran, wrote to us about how she has improved herself so far in the past two months working with us.
“Our clients on that day were a couple from England staying in Scarlett Boutique Hotel. The man, Jeff, is the owner of a logistic company and his companion is a housewife, from whom, I can see the happiness of their marriage life. Our fun Hue Foodie Tour started as planned with a great variety of Hue local food in local restaurants that seldom visited by tourists. We tried Nem Lụi, Bánh Cuốn thịt nướng and then walked along the Chi Lang Gia Hoi Ancient to visit the Chinese Community House called Phúc Kiến and Triều Châu. Foreigners hardly know that this ancient town is similar with Hoi An Ancient Town. In fact, they were built and developed in the same period of time, from 16th – 19th century.
Read away: “Top Local Hue Food You Should Try in Hue City” if you wonder what kind of dishes we mentioned above.
They showed great interest in Su’s introduction about the ancient town and Chinese tradition and legacy being left in Hue. Then, we had Bánh Ép, aka thin pancake and Bánh Tráng Trứng, aka, Vietnamese Pizza. None of them have heard of these dishes. They were even more surprised to know this place is a big hit among young locals in Hue. Bún Bò Huế was our next dish during the tour. Jeff couldn’t eat the crab meatball that included in the bowl. Therefore, he could not try that dish. It was a lesson for my next Hue Foodie Tour: asking our customers their diet preference. There was an incident but not too serious. When I started the engine, I didn’t notice Jeff prepared to get on the back of my motorbike from on my right hand side, which resulted in keeping the motorbike balance and we were nearly falling. The motorbike was a bit high to me, luckily, he had a longer leg which helped us get our balance. We just looked at each other and laughed. From that moment on, he had more experience in getting on the back of our motorbike and I had experience in reminding the customers in advance they should get on the back of any motorbike from left hand side.
We had a walk in the Noon Square which was illumnating and surprising for them. They did not know how beautiful it is at night in the Hue Imperial City and Jeff and Liz got chance to watch a bit of the Changing Guard Show in front of The Phoenix Tower. Our night ended with more food that made Jeff and Liz so full and happy and being Hue Food Experts after that night. Jeff and Su also made an appointment to do a meditation walk to Ngu Binh Mountain, the sacred mountain that protect the Hue Imperial City in the next morning since Jeff is an entrepreneur and he loves doing meditation retreat to find motivation for his life. Su eagerly agreed to do it with them which made them appreciate her more at the end of the tour.
Talking about Su, my lovely boss, she is really a professional tour guide. She made a very good impression on Jeff and Liz at the beginning. Her English is nothing to discuss and her intonation, facial expression and manners made the conversation so appealing and interesting that went on forever between Su and Jeff and Liz. I need to look up to her and learn that skill. She also has great knowledge in all fields. This is very helpful to discuss with our customers.
Before trying each dish, she always gives them incredible story of the dish. The most impressive introduction that she made was about Bún Bò Huế. I was stunned and trying to hold my breath to listen to her speech. If you wonder whether you should try this dish while in Hue city or not, I am sure if you happen taking Hue Foodie Tour with her, you will definitely urge to try how good it is. She is always confident, positive and full of energy. I could see Jeff and Liz feel very satified and entrertained with our companion.
Everytour I took is great lesson and I appreciate this oppportunity to become a great tour guide in the future. Thank you Su and Beebee Travel for taking me in and teaching me invaluable lessons that I could get nowhere.
With passion and love,
